Gorge Walking by Erin M P7c 1.11.06

Before going on a gorge walk you must gather some essential equipment. A helmet must be worn incase you slip and hit your head on a rock, a pair of gorge walking boots, a blue sheep costume/teddy-bear suit(which is a pair of navy, wool-lined dungarees and matching jumper) which helps to insulate you against the cold.
It is a 10 minute bus drive then a 15 minute walk after that to get to the waterfall that the gorge walk takes place on. There is a small climb to an area where you can slide down. Beware...the water is very cold!
When you are climbing up the waterfall do not put any part of your body on the green, mossy rock as it is very slippy. Instead use the pink-coloured rock to climb on.
As you move further up the gorge you come to large pools of water where you may either jump into or swim in. These are also very cold! If it has been raining, on the way back to the bus jump in all the muddy puddles and cover yourself in mud. When back at the centre you hand in all your muddy, wet gear and run off to the the nice, hot sauna...

1/11/06 Bradley's Archery

Before doing archery you need to get your equipment ready. You need a bow for shooting with arrows to fire out of the bow a target to aim at an arm gard to protect your arm and a couple of red flags to warn people archary is in progress.
When you get round to doing archery depending on if you are left or right foot forward you always stand slightly side ways on.When you get round to having a go close one one eye pull back the arrow let go and hope it hits the target.

Skiing

Before you go skiing you have to get your equipment together. You tell your boot size to the man or wamen. To put them on you push the tongue forward and put your foot in. There are 3 clips and you pull the buckle and push it to fasten it. The instructor gets the skis for you that are appropriate to your size. You can take poles if you want to but these are not essential.

When you are on the slope you have to wear gloves so that you do not hurt your hands. You also wear a waterproof jacket and trousers on the ski slope. There is a tow which pulls people to the middle or the top.

Archery!

Before doing archery you need to know how to use the bow and arrow safely.instructors will take a while to tell you what the whistles mean and when it's safe to shoot. You can only do archery when you have this gear: a bow, 3 arrows, an armpad, a target and a basket to put your arrows in.
The armgurad prevents injury. Archery would be particularly interesting to you if you like medievel archers and wanted to learn about how to shoot like them.
If you hit the target you would see circles painted different colours. If you hit the yellow circle in the middle you would get the best score. If you hit the red then you would get the second highest. The blue circle is the last colered circle and the black is after it. The last circle is the white and it is worth the lowest.

GORGE WALKING by Sean 1.11.06

Before going GORGE WALKING you will need to get some equipment.First you need a reallybig jumper [what my group called it a teddy bear jumper] over your other layers to keep you warm when your really really wet.Next you will need yo get some water proofs trousers and jaket to keep you as dry as possible .You willalso need grippy boots to help you up the rocks and the last thing you will also definitely need a helmet to protect your head.
Before you start to walk up the gorge your instructor needs to give ademonstration.
Before you go ahead with the task so you no what to do and don`t get hurt.

Gorge walking by Jay p7c 1/11/06

Before you go gorgewalking it's impotant to wear a helmet incase you fall in the gorge in the gorge and bang your head.

You also need to wear teddy-bear suits to keep you warm and give you an extra layer so that your body heat end keeps the heat close to your bodie. It also stops you from getting hypothermia and getting too cold.Waterproofs are needed to be waterproof and so that you don't get too wet .

You will probably go on a mini bus and stop at the gorge though you have to walk for a bit (whalst wearing the teddy-bear suits this is very uncomfortable). When you get there your instructor SHOULD tell you what to do .Which is cross the waterfall. When climbing you need to put your feet in the rocks above(and get freezing cold hands). Now you have to climb up the other side of the gorge and slide down a rock face on your back, feet first. After that you walk up a bit more and come to a waterfall. Here you need to link arms and walk back into a waterfall.Once your wet you need walk up a bit more and slide down another waterfall but this time you can slide down it into a plungepool, swim to the rocks and climb out freezing. Finally you need to walk back to the minibus get a lift back and warm up.Hope you have a good time gorge walking.

White Water Rafting

Prior to going white water rafting we had to get our equipment which was: Wetsuit to keep you warm, life jacket to keep you afloat if you fall out and and wolly overalls to keep you warm. We also needed a boat, oars and a river (Spay) with good river rapids!
before we could go out white water rafting the instructors had to go over some things. First they taught us some calls:GET DOWN! (thats if your going to hit something really hard) hold on (if your going something softly) forward paddle, backwards paddle and back to positions. After that the instructors told us how to forward paddle (by paddling the way your going) and backwards paddle (by paddling the opposite way your paddling.)
A major part of white water rafting is teamwork because you have to paddle at the same time or its a complete waist of time and you will go all over the place.

Gorge walk

before you go to the gorge walk you need to get together your equipment. You need a helmet, gorge boots, waterproofs, and a swimming costume. The reason you need a helmet is incase you fall on the rocks and damage your skull. You also need gorge boots so that your feet don't get wet and they are also soft because they are waterproof. You need a swimming costume so that you can go into the water and can also go for a little swim. At certain points you can jump into the water.

After the activity you go straight into the sauna to get warmed up you have to bring a towel. After that you can go into the main building and get a hot chocolate to warm you up.

Soccer

To start playing soccer you need two teams of eleven players, one football and two goal posts. There are four
type of players in each team - Goalkeeper, Defenders, Midfielders and Strikers.
GOALKEEPER - The goalkeeper's job is to stop the ball from entering the goal.
DEFENDERS - The defenders stop the opposite team from coming near the goal.
MIDFIELDERS -The midfielders try and score goals for their team.
STRIKERS - The strikers try and score goals for their team.

Archery

Before starting archery you need to set up the equipment . First you place the targets between two planks of wood. Then you choose your bow get your arrows and a wrist guard. Now you are ready for archery.
The targets are made of hay and paper and are coloured white, black, blue, red and yellow. The scoring areas have different values white is lowest and yellow is the highest
The bow is made of metal, wire and plastic and the arrows are made of metal and plastic which is flexible.
The technique in archery is to pull the wire back to your cheek take your middle two fingers to pull the string and release.
To keep safe in archery you need to follow some rules if yellow flags are up other groups are not allowed to orienteer and while shooting you are not allowed to cross the white line. If your instructor blows a whistle you have to stop firing arrows immeditely

When you go kayaking you need the right equipment. The equipment that you will need is a wet-suit,wet boots, which are shoes you can get wet. You also need a waterproof jacket, to you warm and a helmet to protect you're head. A life jacket is also essential to prevent drowning.

We went kayaking in a nearby lake.

Once we got to the lake our instructor told us what to do if we capsized was so we were in danger paddled round the lake practicing our turns after the instructor had demonstrated these to us. When we all knew what to do we played some games. We did some races and played tig,it was great for turning and going back and forward. It was also good for speed. It was a great experience and loads of fun!

da tree climb

The things you need to go on a tree climb are,a carabena to clip on to your figiure of 8 knot, a helmet to save you if you fall, a rope to abseil on, an instructor to belay you.
Once your insrtuctor has clipped you to yhe rope then you can start climbing. At first its quite hard but when you get closer to the top it gets easier because there are branches to help you. When you get to the top you ring a bell then you tell your instructor to lower you down. Then you simply abseil down. When you get to the bottom you unscrew your carabena and if its your last shot you loosen your harness and take it off
So there you have it the tree climb is really fun 10/10 so is lagganlia but it is 11/10.

Snowboarding

I would like to tell you about snowboarding. Snowboarding is very enjoyable sport but at first it can be challenging. The equipment you will need is a snowboard. Then you will need gloves with good grip (maybe leather gloves). After that you will need strong stong waterproof boots that are durable and comfortable. Last a waterproof snowsuit that won't rip.

You will need to start with the basics. Staying balanced on the board is a start and leaning right to left without moving. Once you get that down you can practice moving on the board. When you are more experienced you should practice moving around objects such as rocks or trees (slowly).

Rock Climbing

Before going rock climbing you need some essential gear.
Go to "The Stores" to gather harnesses, ropes, helmets and carabena clips. The harnesses are for safety reasons and to make sure the person below can keep hold of you, this is called belaying(up,down, slide, slide). The ropes are to be tied on the top of the cliff and to the two people(the person that is climbing and the person that is belaying).Helmets are extremely important because they protect your head and skull in case you fall.Lastly the carabena clip, this is for attaching the person that is climbing to the rope.Flexible shoes and comfortable clothing is also ideal.

SNOW-BOARDING for beginners!!!!

First you need to get your snow-boarding gear. The essentials are: knee-pads, gloves, hand-shields, snow-boarding boots and your snow-board. You need to tell your instructor if you are left handed(regular) or right handed(goofy) because the snow-board is different for each.
Once you have got all of your gear together you go to the slope(there are 2 different main types of slope- a dry/fake-snow slope and a natural snow slope) and follow any instructions your instructor gives you.
There are lots of different styles of snow-boarding. Probably the first you will be taught is 'side facing'. According to your board you face the way you are handed-e.g if you are goofy you will face right.

Orienteering

Before doing orienteering you need some equipment. You will need to wear warm clothes like a jumper, thick trousers, a hat and a pair of gloves in case you get cold. You must have a map to tell you where the stations are and so you don't get lost. You also need a piece of paper with boxes on it so when you get to the right station you punch holes in it that make a special pattern. The instructor will give you the map and the paper.
The instructor will teach you how to use the map properly by using the key and orientating it. Orientating the map is when you turn the map the right way.
There are two parts to the orienteering. For the first one you got into small groups of two or three. You take a piece of paper with ten station numbers on it. Take a map with one of the stations on it. You go and find the right station, punch the holes in it, take it back, get it checked and take another one.

Mountain Biking

Before going mountain biking it is very important that you gather the right equipment. You would need: A helmet with a chin strap that can be tightened and untightened and a bike with working gears and brakes (if you are going out in the dark then it is safer to have lights on your bike). It is essential that you wear a helmet for safety.
Before we went, we were shown how to go down hill on grass and mud without skidding, but still going fast! Some other advise our instructor gave us was change into the lowest gears when going up hill and it made it a lot easier!
When cycling along the road be careful to stay on the left and give way to cars. The road is quite long and there is a steep ditch along the side of it so we had to be careful not to cycle into it.
If it is raining, you get very wet and stuff gets stuck in the chain, like twigs and leaves.
Afterwards we had to hose down the bikes and put them away, our instructor decided to hose us too!!!

Climbing

It essential to gather the correct equipment before you go climbing. You need a harness, a helmet, ropes, appropriate shoes, carabena clips and hooks/pins. A harness is used to attach you to the rope and prevent you from falling off. A helmet is very important gear because if you fall or make contact with somethiing hard then it will keep your head safe. Ropes are needed to secure you to the rock and give you something to hold onto while you are abseiling down. Appropriate shoes are needed and should be flexible to allow you to fit your foot into holds and have grips to stop you sliding off the rocks.
Safety is very important and all your gear should be done up securely and correctly. You put your harness on by slipping your legs through the loops and tightening them with the buckles. Make sure it is tight enough by seeing if you can slip your hand through, if you can then it is not tight enough. Your helmet must also sit comfortably on your head and must be done up securely. Belaying must be done correctly to insure safety. You have to feed the rope through a carabena clip and secure it with a special knot.
Before you start climbing the instructor must set up the ropes. They do this by attaching a double rope to the top of a cliff, the rope being held by a pin.
The climbing is done by looking for a hand or foot hold and holding on to it with one hand, you then repeat this with the other hand, pull yourself up and find somewhere to rest your feet. You carry this on to the top. When you have finished climbing you can abseil down. To do this you lean gently back onto the rope, using your feet to guide you slowly down.
